India Gate

It was cool and rainy on my first day in Delhi. The morning mist lent an air of atmosphere to India Gate.

Like L’Arc de Triomphe in Paris, India Gate is a landmark and a tourist attraction as well as a symbol of national pride. It commemorates the death of Indian soldiers who died in World War I and the Afghan wars.

India Gate is a favorite picnic spot for Delhi wallas (those who live in Delhi). This pretty garden spot is right behind the Gate.

My attention was soon drawn to the vendors selling drinks and snacks near the parking area.

I bought a snack from one of them so I’d have an excuse to chat with him and get a photo.
